Thoughts On The Big Win Over #6 Nevada

After having a great conference win against Boise State 71-65 the Aztecs were looking for another home win and were trying to upset the #6 team in the whole country, the Nevada Wolfpack. They sure did, all while leading for most of the game, and won 65-57.


Strengths

Devin Watson and Jeremy Hemsley

Both of the senior guards had amazing games. Watson and Hemsley both led the team in scoring with 15 points each. Hemsley also added in six rebounds and in addition had one block and a steal. While Watson dished out eight assists and grabbed five rebounds.


Rebounding

The Aztecs had a phenomenal game rebounding the ball against Nevada. San Diego State ended up outrebounding Nevada, 46-37. The Aztecs had an outstanding 12 offensive rebounds while the Wolfpack had only six of them. Forward Matt Mitchell  led the Aztecs with 9 rebounds. Jalen Mcdaniels, Nathan Mensah, and Hemsley were second on the team with six rebounds each.


Defending

The Aztecs had a great defensive game plan and held Nevada to only 33% shooting from the field and only 28% from beyond the arc. Star players forward Jordan Caroline and the Martin Twins, guards Caleb and Cody Martin, only shot 9-33 from the field in the loss.


Weakness

Jalen McDaniels struggles

Star forward Jalen McDaniels struggled in the game for the Aztecs. McDaniels only finished with 10 points, six rebounds and also added fouled out in the game in about 37 minutes played. The Aztecs were able to overcome his struggles and still came out with the win.
