After coming off a disappointing lost at Air Force at Sunday (48-62), the Aztecs were looking for a bounce-back game. They for sure achieved their goal and crushed New Mexico 97-77.
Points in the Paint
With New Mexico playing a zone defense, the Aztecs needed a plan to break it apart. Their plan was to pass it to the middle of the defense and go from there. From this plan, forwards Jalen McDaniels and Nathan Mensah found success. McDaniels finished with 24 points and Mensah had 16, while having a perfect shooting night from the field.
Sharing the Ball
San Diego State did another great job sharing the basketball. The Aztecs made 38 shots and 30 of them came off assists. Jeremy Hemsley and Matt Mitchell both led the team with nine assists each. In addition to those two, McDaniels dished out four assists. The key to a good offense is to move the ball and if San Diego State keeps this up they will be collecting more victories.
The Aztecs had five players who finished in double figures. San Diego State was led by McDaniels and Watson. McDaniels had 24 points and Watson had 21, 17 of which he scored in the first half. In addition to his 16 points, Mensah grabbed seven rebounds. Jordan Schakel had 10 points, which included two three pointers and forward Aguek Arop also added 10.
