Coaches Brian Dutcher and Dave Velasquez were at the Adidas Uprising in Texas this past weekend to catch the action. The coaches were spotted at three of the four games for Vista-based Gamepoint Basketball.
Gamepoint has two local prospects in the class of 2018 with a ton of potential, Taurus Samuels and Warren Washington.
Samuels plays his high school ball at Vista High where he averaged 25 points a game. He was also one of two sophomores named to the All-CIF Basketball team (the other was Taeshon Cherry). The 6-0 point guard received his first offer this week from Colgate University, however he has a high ceiling and I would expect his stock to rise sooner rather than later.
Another talented local product, Washington is a 6-10 power forward that plays at Escondido High. I actually watched Washington play during the Under Armour Holiday Classic with his Escondido teammates and saw glimpses of talent that make him an intriguing prospect. He oozes potential and I would not be surprised to see him grow into a force within the next year. Currently Washington has offers from Montana, Nevada, and Tulane.
It is obvious that the coaching staff is working hard to build a relationship with local prospects. Their attention to both players speaks volume to their interest in these two young men. This weekend Gamepoint Basketball will be in Atlanta for the Adidas Gauntlet event.
