It is transfer season and the market is flooded with more than 500 players looking for new homes. Throughout the season Coach Steve Fisher has stated that the Aztecs would likely be in the market for a transfer or two, however they had to be the right transfer.
Everyone knows that there is a need for a big man, especially one that can defend the paint. I would not be surprised if a point guard may be an option that the Aztecs are exploring.
Many interesting names have popped up as searching for new homes including Daniel Giddens, Derryck Thornton and Justin Simon, just to name a few. Unfortunately the Aztecs have not been linked to any of these players.
After a quiet first few days after the NCAA Tournament Final, the Aztecs have been linked to a couple of players. Here is a running list of the players who have mentioned interest from San Diego State.
Devin Watson (San Francisco)
Watson played his high school ball at El Camino High School in Oceanside, California. A three-star prospect, Watson received interest from the Aztecs, however they went with Kevin Zabo at the guard position. In his freshman year at San Francisco, Watson was named to the West Coast Conference's All-Freshman Team. This year he averaged 20.3 points per game on the way to being named first-team All-WCC. Besides the Aztecs, Watson is currently looking at California, Fresno State, Kansas, and UNLV. He will need to sit out a year and have two years of eligibility left. UPDATE: Watson committed to the Aztecs.
Valentine Izundu (Washington State)
The 6-11 center is looking to transfer to San Diego State, however is being blocked by Cougar Head Coach Ernie Kent. Izundu had an appeal hearing on Wednesday, April 20, and will now await the decision of the appeals board. If he wins his appeal expect him to become an Aztec pretty quickly. Izundu will graduate and have one year left to play. He will be eligible immediately. UPDATE: Izundu committed to the Aztecs while on an official visit.
As more names become available we will add them to the list. It looks like the Aztecs are looking to add talent to the roster and hopefully they find what they are looking for.
