Consensus four-star recruit Timmy Allen put out his top five schools and San Diego State was among the five. The Mesa, Arizona native’s other schools included Iowa State, Texas Tech, UCLA, and Utah.
The 6-6 Allen is a good all-around player. He has a high basketball IQ and does a little bit of everything to help his team win. Allen is a good passer with great court vision, which allows him to find the open man. When it comes to scoring he can get to the basket or take the jumper when it is there. In transition Allen is comfortable bringing up the ball, but is a decisive finisher when the ball comes to him.
Defensively Allen is a tough defender who rises to the challenge when it comes to guarding the other team’s scorer. I saw him play against California commit Matt Bradley and when Bradley got physical Allen did not back down. Instead he rose to the challenge and took playing defense personally. When a player takes playing defense personally then you know that he is a good defender. It takes wanting to play defense in order to become a good defender and Allen wants to shut opposing players down. Allen also is a good rebounder on both ends of the court; he uses his athletic ability and his IQ to position himself well for rebounds.
A few days ago we posted that San Diego State has placed itself in a good spot with Allen and I continue to believe that the Aztecs are strongly recruiting him. Allen has been at the San Diego State team camp for three consecutive years and knows the campus. With that being said I still fully expect him to at least schedule a visit to the Mesa. Our Commitment Probability Index has him at a 45%. We will update that as more information comes in.
