Yesterday Taeshon Cherry announced that he would be posting his top eight schools. This morning Cherry released his list and good news; the Aztecs were on it! San Diego State joined Arizona, Florida State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Southern California, Texas A&M, and UCLA on Cherry’s list.
We were a bit tipped off that Cherry would include the Aztecs when Scout.com published an article yesterday stating that San Diego State was one of the five schools focusing on him the most. Either way it is good to know that the Aztecs are still in consideration.
Now the Aztecs will continue to try to keep the 2018 five-star local boy home. Cherry is a 6-9 small forward who plays at St. Augustine High School here in San Diego and has been playing in the Nike EYBL circuit for the Oakland Soldiers. This year Cherry has raised his game to a new level. He led his high school team to a San Diego Open section title on the way to being named San Diego Section Player of the Year. His stock has risen sharply and schools took notice.
Currently we do not like the Aztecs chances of securing Cherry’s commitment. Our Commitment Probability has San Diego State at 5%. His recruitment will be an uphill battle, but staying in contention to the end will be necessary to have a chance to land the top player in San Diego.
