While the San Diego State coaching staff has been working to fill the two scholarships they have for 2020, they have also begun building their list for 2021 by sending out offers. Today it was announced, by the player himself and his AAU coach, that the Aztecs had offered 6-11 big man Alex Tchikou.
Tchikou is a four-star prospect and the #37 player in the 247Sports composite. Originally from Paris, France, Tchikou came to the United States three years ago to further his education and play basketball in the states. He is playing his basketball at Dream City Christian, a prep school in Glendale, Arizona.
Tchikou is a threat to score at all three levels. Due to his height one would think that he would be a grinder down low, however Tchikou can play anywhere from down low to beyond the three-point range. He has great size to be a force in the paint on both ends of the court, and he is building his repertoire to be a more consistent scorer from outside the paint and putting the ball down and getting to the basket. His versatility makes him a great prospect who is only going to get better before he gets to college.
Tchikou already has 30+ offers, but recently named Arizona, Baylor, Kansas, Oregon, and Virginia among those who were on him the hardest. He has not taken any visits, but was scheduled to go visit Oregon, however with plans up in the air due to the coronavirus pandemic, his recruitment is a bit more fluid.
He is a top talent that will make whatever school he chooses better. A potential one and done player, Tchikou would be a solid presence on both offense and defense. For San Diego State you could put him at the four next to Nathan Mensah and he would be a mismatch on the floor. His recruitment will be an interesting one due to the strength of the programs following him, however the Aztecs have a chance to stay involved in his recruitment.
