Over the last year we have been tracking the big name players in San Diego. While there is not a sure-fire five-star prospect in San Diego’s 2020 class, there are number of division one players. One of the biggest names in San Diego’s 2020 class, Chibuzo Agbo was the first local to earn a San Diego State offer when Coach Brian Dutcher extended one yesterday.
When you see Agbo on the floor you instantly notice how big and strong he is. The rising high school senior already has a college ready body. Offensively he plays bigger than his 6-6 height. He can battle in the paint with big guys, but has range all the way to the three-point line. On the defensive end he is able to use his body to keep his opponent in front of him and to take up space in the paint to rebound and alter shots.
While he is strong enough to get to the basket and score through contact, Agbo at times settles for the jump shot. I would like to see him try to get to the basket more often and become a better offensive rebounder as the next steps in his development.
Agbo plays his basketball here in San Diego for St. Augustine High school. He has been the Saints best player for a long time, but he might arguably the best player in his class in San Diego. On the AAU circuit Agbo plays for Compton Magic, the top AAU team in California.
The fast-rising wing prospect is ranked #137 by 247Sports and is a consensus three-star prospect. Agbo has six offers including three Mountain West offers. The teams that have offered him are Cal Poly, Fresno State, Nevada, San Diego, San Diego State, and UC Irvine.
Agbo is scheduled to participate in the San Diego Swish league. We will be there to keep up on his development and to get a look at all the San Diego State players in attendance. Expect an update on Agbo soon.
