Recruiting is usually slow during the season as the coaches stay on campus holding practice and watching film in preparation for the next game. When the rare bye happens the grind does not stop and the coaching staff is able to once again hit the road and catch up with prospects that they are recruiting. With the Aztecs on a bye this week the assistant coaches were out checking on recruits and one player that got an offer was 2021 prospect Kaleb Washington.
Washington is a player that the coaches have been keeping an eye on for a while. At 6-7 he is a wing with great athleticism who is improving his game. The four star recruit is currently ranked 107 overall in the 247Sports composite and #5 in the state. He attends Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Georgia.
Watching film of Washington I immediately notice how he smooth he is on the floor. As mentioned earlier he is athletic, and is able to rise above defenders to get his shot off. The one thing I liked about his film is how he gets to the basket to score, which a lot of wings do not do in high school. They often tend to stay behind the three-point line, however Washington is not afraid to get in the paint.
With the upcoming loss of Matt Mitchell and Jordan Schakel, the Aztecs will need some depth on the wing to go with incoming recruit Che Evans. Washington would be an excellent fit on the team, as his athleticism would be well used by the coaches and his skill would continue developing.
San Diego State is Washington’s 13th offer. He has offers from major schools like Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Xavier, among others. He has visited a number of schools on the east coast, but it will be interesting to see if the staff can get him out west for a visit. Washington immediately jumps to the near top of recruits I will keep my eye on for the 2021 class.
