Yesterday the coaching staff sent out an offer to a player from out in Wyoming and today they extended one to a player closer to home. The coaching staff offered 2021 6-5 guard Peyton Watson from Long Beach Poly, in Long Beach, California. Long Beach Poly is the high school of Aztecs guard Ke’Jhan “KJ” Feagin, and he and Watson appear to have a friendly relationship.

Watson is currently unranked by the major recruiting services, however PrepHoops ranks him the #5 player in Southern California, and #88 overall, in the 2021 class. It is still early to get accurate rankings, however he has created a lot of buzz as of late. From the film we watched you could see the shooting prowess and his athleticism. Deferring to people that have seen him more we look at what two scouts wrote about Watson. Here is what Devin Ugland had to say after watching Watson at the St. John Bosco Summer League.

“Finally, it’s Peyton Watson’s show at Long Beach Poly, and if his performance today was any evidence of what’s to come, his games will be “must see.” His frame is starting to fill out and is absorbing + finishing better thru contact. Initiated offense w IQ, rebounding w purpose.”

Prep Hoops writer Joel Francisco saw him at the Hustle in the Sun event in Garden Grove, California, and placed him on his list of standouts. Here was Francisco’s take on Watson.

“Watson should be knocking on the door on every Top 100 National List. He fits that phrase—it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish. His first two years he barely made a dent in the Long Beach Poly varsity line-up. However, that is all about to change. His ball skills, shooting ability, and athleticism are catching up to his prototypical D1 frame—now it’s about continuing the process.”

Currently he has offers from Grand Canyon, Montana, Pepperdine, San Diego State, and Santa Clara. It sounds like he is going to be a breakout player here in the near future as more schools and scouts hear and see him play. Building a relationship early with him is important, as it appears that his recruitment will take off.
