The April Evaluation Period is over and the Aztecs coaching staff has huddled up and sent out some offers. Coaches Brian Dutcher, Dave Velasquez, Rod Palmer, and director of player development J.D. Pollock have all been on the road the last two weekends and liked what they saw. On top of that they have been getting after some 2018 players and some transfers. Here is the most recent news after the April Live Period.
Aguek Arop Offered and Visiting
San Diego State offered Aguek Arop from The Skill Factory prep school in Georgia. Arop is a 2018 prospect and would be eligible for the upcoming season. The 6-6 wing will be visiting this weekend and is down to the Aztecs and Wichita State. He will set up a visit with the Shockers after his San Diego State visit, if he does not commit to the Aztecs while on campus.
We spoke to his coach at The Skill Factory, Rob Johnson, who gave us a lot of information about Arop and his game. You can read more about him here.
San Diego State Offers 2019 Wing Jalen Hill
Over the last two weeks I have noticed that the Aztecs coaching staff was constantly present for one team. They seemed to be following the Las Vegas Prospects, which was strange to me, as the Prospects did not have a player with a San Diego State offer. Well the mystery of whom they were watching came to an end on Sunday as the staff extended an offer to 6-7 wing Jalen Hill.
Hill plays his high school ball at Clark High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. The three-star prospect has seen his stock rise dramatically as he has received four offers in the last week. Most recently DePaul, Minnesota, Missouri, and San Diego State have offered to go along with Florida State, UC Santa Barbara, and the hometown school, UNLV.
Former Washington Commit Ed Chang Gets Offer From SDSU
Tuesday San Diego State extended an offer to three-star Ed Chang. Chang is originally from Nebraska, however he moved to Washington for his senior season. He was committed to Washington, but did not sign and later decided to open up his recruitment. Since decommitting from Washington, Chang has offers from Oklahoma State, Mississippi, and San Diego State.
Top 75 Wing Jaime Jaquez Receives An Offer
Wednesday the Aztecs were busy handing out two more offers, the first one to 2019 Wing Jaime Jaquez Jr. Jaquez is a four-star prospect who is ranked #74 in the 247sports rankings. The Aztecs coaching staff has been following the 6-7 wing for some time and decided it was time to extend an offer. Jaquez is highly sought after with offers from high major programs around the country. Getting him will be a tough task, but this is a player that I like a lot for the Aztecs.
Rice Transfer Malik Osborne Gets An Offer
Yesterday the second Aztecs offer was given to Rice transfer Malik Osborne. Osborne had a very good season at Rice, starting nearly every game and averaging nine points and nearly 6.5 rebounds per game. Since receiving the Aztecs offer, Osborne has gotten offers from Virginia Tech and Wisconsin. An Illinois native, getting him out to the West Coast will be a tough chore, especially if more schools from the midwest get involved. It's still early, however his recruitment seems like it could blow up.
2020 Guard Johnny Juzang Offered By The Aztecs
Talking about recruitments that have blown up, there may not be another West Coast player with an offer list like Johnny Juzang's. Juzang has been offered by nearly every PAC-12 school as well as Georgetown, Kansas, and TCU among others. I have watched Juzang play in many events in Los Angeles and have always hoped that the Aztecs would get involved. He is a floor general that can create with the ball in his hands, for himself or his teammates. A prolific score, yet unselfish, Juzang always makes the right play and you can see the immense talent that he holds. This recruitment seems to be out of reach, however with Coach Palmer in the mix the Aztecs have a chance to get in there with this talented prospect.
Other Aztecs Notes...
- Washington State transfer Malachi Flynn visited San Diego State last week. He is reportedly looking at Creighton and San Diego State. A decision could come at any time.
- Former San Diego State commit Jordan Campbell committed to Oregon State.
